3 Reasons Why Prayer Is Important!
Updated: Oct 19, 2020
I've heard a lot of Christians and non-Christians ask themselves "If God knows my heart, why do I need to pray?" I understand where this question stems from because yes, God does know the desires of your heart but prayer is more than projecting what you want to God. Prayer is a conversation with God. So today I am giving you three reasons why prayer is important!
Growing up in sunday school we used to sing a lot of different songs to remember scripture or for fun! One song that stuck with me was "Prayer's like a telephone for us to talk to Jesus, Prayers like a telephone for us to talk to God, so pick it up and use it everyday!" This was the perfect analogy for the use of prayer. When you talk to your family and friends over the phone, its not just to ask them for things that you want. You talk about your day, you thank them for things, you discuss things etc. Lets think about our prayer time this way.
THE FIRST REASON YOU NEED TO PRAY...
1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to pray without ceasing.
What does this mean?
This means that through everything, every season, every circumstance, pray! Don't stop praying! Even when you tell yourself "God knows my desires" PRAY!
Confess with your tongue! There is power in the tongue as the Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21. It tells us that there is life and death in the power of the tongue! How powerful!
This means that you can speak life into your desires according to Gods will, as well as speak death in to your life too if you speak negatively about things.
THE SECOND REASON YOU NEED TO PRAY...
MARK 13:33 tells us to watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. Nobody knows the time or the hour of when Christ will come back apart from GOD. So we need to be in communication with God, remain close to Him, have a real relationship with God so you are ready for whenever Christ returns. Prayer isn't always asking for things, prayer is praising God and thanking him for everything; the fact that you are alive today, the fact that you are able to even pray to God is a blessing! So don't stop praising and worshiping God because even through your worship doors will open for you, God blesses His children, don't miss your blessing because "God already knows my desires".
When Hannah wanted a son, God knew how badly she wanted to have a child and that did not stop her from praying and praising God! She was praying when Eli (the priest) saw her and told her to go and 'it is done'. She then recieved her miracle. (You can read about this in 1 Samuel Chapter 1)
THE THIRD REASON YOU NEED TO PRAY...
JESUS TOLD US TO AND HOW TO!
In Matthew 6:5-15 Jesus shows us how to pray. He instructs us to go in our room, shut the door and pray. This means that prayer is a sacred thing between you and the Father, you need to pray with an earnest heart, not just repeating meaningless words.
He also gives us a format of a prayer. Which we know as the Lords Prayer. It starts with praising God and giving Him the glory. Then it goes onto asking God to bless us and asking for forgiveness but also as we forgive others. Which is very very important!
These were just three reasons of why you need to start praying! or keep on praying! There are many many more reasons but the ultimate reason is that prayer is our way to talking to God, you can't have a relationship with Him if you don't speak to Him! He wants to have a close relationship with you, He wants to be your rock.
Lets pray the Lords Prayer:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, In Jesus Name, AMEN.
