Hey Masterpiece Family! Happy June! We are pretty much half way through 2020, we thank God! I am super excited for the second half of the year because God is so amazing and his plans are always good. During the month of June, we are looking at what it really means to be Gods Masterpiece. We have looked at this before but I am going to be unraveling this topic from a different perspective. We're going to look at Gods image.
What does it actually mean to be created in Gods Image?
What is Gods Image?
The Bible tells us that we are created in Gods Image from the very beginning.
So God Created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Genesis 1:27
This the first mention in the Bible of being created in Gods image, at the very beginning in Genesis as God is creating the world.
The Image of God is what exactly? The Image of God is not a face or body. It's not a specific height. It's not a specfic weight. If it was, wouldn't that be unfair?
But rather than the outward appearance, Gods Image is way more than that. It's in our heart, personality, skills etc.
In 1 Samuel 16: 7 - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
This tells us what God looks at more than anything, He looks at our hearts. Imagine being able to see peoples hearts when you look at them rather than seeing everything on the outside first. Life would be so different! So God didn't created us physically in His image, but He created us in His image by our hearts, our personalities, skills and atributes.
First thing to note is that Adam and Eve were created to live forever with God in Eden. (That was broken when they sinned against God by disobeying Him.)
But the first point I'm going to make is that we were initially made to live forever, which is like God because he is eternal.
But through what Jesus did on the cross for us, we are able to have enternal life through him, in heaven. God is amazing.
Another way we are created in His image is that we are called to rule over the rest of creation and look after the earth, God gave us this authority through Christ.
Through the name of Jesus, we have authority over our situations and circumstances. There is power in the tongue, there is life in the name of Jesus. So I am reminding you today to use the authority God has given you and command your situation to move!
God also said that it is not good for man to be alone, so He also made Eve.
This reveals the importance of companionship, which is so important because that is what God wants with us. God shows us the importance of companionship so many times in the Bible, that even Jesus had companionship with the disciples.
God is a loving God. He loves us and He loves spending time with us.
So spend quiet time with God today, talk to your maker, He is waiting for you with open arms. God loves you, more than you know.
Another thing about the image of God is He is Love.
God is Love and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 tells us exaclty what Love is, and when you replace the word 'Love' with God in that scripture, you see the character of God. Patient, Kind, Holds no record of wrongs. That is the God we serve.
These are just a few of the amazing things the Image of God consists of. God is way more than we can even comprehend, thats how Holy He is. But I hope this explains His image to you. He created you to represent Him. You're his most valued creation, so walk in that today!
May God Bless you,
