Following our theme of the month, 'Humilty vs Pride', I Interviewed Ude Osim, a footballer, currently studying Computer Science and a follower of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
What does Humility mean to you?
Humility in my eyes is a genuine characteristic that portrays one’s gratitude or a ‘meek heart' towards GOD. This characteristic doesn’t just stop in having a reverence and trust for a Sovereign GOD but extends to an individual’s mannerisms daily. These behavioral changes can only come forth when a person is completely submitted to Jesus as their ‘Lord’ (a person having power and authority over others). To be humble, we must have faith that GOD will lead you in the right way to live. Trusting GOD shows that you are obedient and will not lean on your own understanding or wisdom but on GOD’s divinity and providence. Though this is easier said than done, being humble truly shows an ability not just to wait on the promises of GOD for your life but how you act while waiting.
Have you ever struggled with Pride in an area (e.g relationships, work etc.) and how did you overcome it?
I have struggled with Pride in many areas of my life, especially when I think I am humble enough already. However, one of the ways that I overcome this deceitful mindset is by meditating on the word of GOD ‘DAILY’. This is important because as I humble my ‘self’ to do this each day the scriptures convict my heart and highlight areas that unveil my need for GOD’s intervention and help. This need for GOD’s guidance and support in everyday life really does help me to remain connected to the ‘Vine’ and bear fruits of the Holy Spirit (Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self-Control). The reflection of these fruits helps me to stay grounded and forever humble whenever faced with Life and the many obstacles that are thrown my way.
What advice would you give to someone who is struggling with being prideful?
My best advice would be to Pray, Fast and seek guidance from the word of GOD. Though these aspects seem very commonly used it really does help you to take away your focus from yourself to your Creator. This shift of perspective brings you to the humbling reality of who GOD is and what He has done for you and the entire World through His Love.
How do you check your heart to make sure you’re truly humble?
The best way I believe to examine your heart is through the word of GOD. This book of life shows you if the motives of your heart is right and guides you on what is the right incentive in correcting any wrongs.
