Hey Masterpiece Family!
During the month of August at Masterpiece, we are exploring the meaning of widsom. Wisdom is something that the Bible urges us to follow rather than being foolish. There is no inbetween!
Today I pose to you this question, If you could have one thing in the world, anything at all, what would it be?
In the Bible, we know Psalms, Proverbs and Ecclesisates as the 'Wisdom books'. They were all written by the wisest man in the Bible, Solomon. Who when God gave him the opportunity to have whatever he wanted (it was kind of like a 'your wish is my command' moment), Solomon asked for wisdom. What Solomon realised was, that as king of Israel, (Gods people) he would not be able to lead them alone without guidance from God. So Solomon humbled himself and asked for wisdom to lead the people of God. And God blessed him with wisdom, that he was actually the wisest man to have ever lived. (You can find this in 1 Kings Chapter 3.)
'The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ' I Kings 3:10
When Solomon asked for Wisdom, The Lord was pleased. Why? Because Solomon could have easily asked for a long life, endless riches, handsomeness etc. But instead Solomon chose wisdom.
The Bible tells us endless times that there is a foolish way and there is a wise way.
There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. - Proverbs 16:25
But firstly, What is wisdom?
According to the dictionary:
Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgement; the quality of being wise.
But according to the Bible, there are many layers to wisdom. We know that in Proverbs 9:10 is tells us that
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.'
What does Fear of the Lord mean? It is respecting God, following His Word, having reverance in His presence. This is the beginning of wisdom.
Today I am going to give you 5 reasons you should choose Widsom today.
1. The Bible instructs us to choose wisdom.
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Proverbs 2:2.
There is a lot of noise that we hear everyday in this world, whether from other people, the media, online etc. But the Bible tells us to 'tune' our ears to wisdom. Throughout the book of Proverbs we are introduced to Lady Wisdom, who is described as shouting out in the streets, calling anyone that will listen. ('Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares.' Proverbs 1:20) This is why we have to 'tune' our ears to wisdom because wisdom is available, but it can get lost in the midst of the noise if you don't tune your ears to it.
2. Wisdom will multiply your days and add years to your life. (Proverbs 9:11)
The Bible makes this very clear to us over and over again, the difference between the foolish and the wise. The foolish always ends in death and chooses to induldge in the wrong things.
Wisdom leads us to make the right choices and decisions, follow the right path and add years to your life.
3. Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!And whatever else you do, develop good judgment - Proverbs 4:7
God literally tells us that getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do! There is nothing wiser than that, if you want to make a wise decision today, pray for wisdom. God will grant it to you, He tells us that we should get wisdom!
4. The Bible tells us that fools despise wisdom and instruction!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7
Throughout the book of Proverbs, we see the distinction between fools and the wise. This is one of the first contrasts of that. Quite plainly, we are told that fools despise wisdom AND instructions. So today, don't be a fool, check your heart and attitude. Do you despise wisdom? Do you despise intructions? Choose wisdom today.
5. Wisdom is good for your soul!
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good. Proverbs 16:20
The Bible tells us that if you love your soul, you'll get wisdom! That's how important wisdom is. If you want to nourish your soul, get wisdom. If you want to grow in spirit, get wisdom!
There are so many more reasons why you should choose wisdom today but here are five. I hope that as you read this today, you choose wisdom.
So, I pose this question to you again,
If you could have one thing in the world, anything at all, what would it be?
I hope you choose wisdom.
Dear Father God,
I thank You for your gift of wisdom. I thank You for Your love towards us. Today we pray for wisdom in everything we do, we pray for Your gift of wisdom to manifest in our lives as we have understood the importance of wisdom. That wisdom is the difference between life and death, Lord we choose life today. We choose wisdom.
In Jesus name, Amen.
May God Bless you.
